Can it ever be the way it was? & Psychology of craft

My name is Philipp and you are reading Creativerly, the internet corner where I unpack my musings, curate and write about noteworthy apps and software, and explore the latest trends in design and tech.

Hey and welcome to Creativerly 351 👋

This week's newsletter might be one of the shortest I have ever written. No new post, no updates, news, or findings, just four lovely articles, a short note about my recent post about the macOS app I built, and a couple of quick bits. That is it for this week. The reason for the rather short newsletter is that my past week has been packed, too packed for my taste, since I always enjoy and appreciate some down-time, which to me means multiple things, e.g. writing the newsletter. However, during the past week, down-time actually meant not doing anything, since after almost every single day, I was looking forward to log off, rest, sleep, and recharge.

Anyway, looking ahead, the upcoming days seem to be a bit more calm, which means there should be more down-time, more time to set aside for writing sessions, and I am already looking forward to that.

I am always fascinated by the fact that when my days are packed, and because of that I get hit with anxiety, I do not feel like writing, although, usually writing down what has been going on inside my mind in those situations, would probably help with reducing anxiety. I have not journaled for a week, although I usually do it daily. And this is also something I am looking forward too, however, throughout the past week, I had zero energy to sit down and write about how packed my days were, although it might would have helped me with dealing with all the stuff going on.

Nevertheless, I was able to recharge a bit over the course of the weekend, so I feel quite motivated for this new week, and to make the best of it, especially since we only have 6 weeks left in 2025. Mind-boggling.

Well, and now enjoy this week's short and quick newsletter.

Mental Wealth

Stop worrying what everyone thinks – “Many of us spend a lot of time worrying about what other people think. I don't have immunity, or a remedy.”

Psychology of craft – “One of the imperatives in contemporary, professional work culture is to “grow.” There is often a sense of height or largeness with that imperative, as if growth must be measured in your distance up the ladder, your territory across the way.”

I know you don’t want them to want AI, but… – “Today, Rodrigo Ghedrin wrote the very well-intentioned, but incorrectly-titled,  “I think nobody wants AI in Firefox, Mozilla”. As he correctly summarizes, sentiment on the Mozilla thread about a potential new AI pane in the Firefox browser is overwhelmingly negative. That’s not surprising; the Big AI companies have given people numerous legitimate reasons to hate and reject “AI” products, ranging from undermining labor to appropriating content without consent to having egregious environmental impacts to eroding trust in public discourse.”

Can it ever be the way it was? – “Social media feels like it's in the throes of decay. Not just one platform, but multiple platforms. We've lost the social aspect and are only getting the media, and the general vibe I'm getting from people is that they're tired.”
